As a way to close 2022, here's pretty much the art I've made throughout all the year, it wasn't a really productive one but I still am proud of the art I've made throughout it all, here's to 2023 being more productive!

So MaGMML3 is still in progress, but the results have been revealed not too long ago!

My level fell in 103rd place, although this was because of it's late penalty, if it didn't have it, it would be in the top 100 at least! Happy with the position nevertheless, feel free to check it out while the game approaches completion!

After oh... no more time than 7 MONTHS. The TRICKSTERhat official (and personal) website is now re-open to the public!

Surprisingly, coding this took less time than actually coming up with the mockups FOR the site itself, BUT even if the code is garbage, oh well, the site at least works.

Take a look!

Sup, it's me, TRICKSTERhat.

It's been a little while, but I've had a couple of projects being planned and all, but in the middle, I felt like talking about an old project that didn't get to see the light of day due to reasons.

(small warning: Some of the gifs may trigger epileptic reactions. Please be careful when looking at them.)

Welcome to 1Bit, 1Song (The Friday Night Funkin mod)

... well, so it was before it got cancelled.

Pictured: A mockup of the mod prior to the background assets being finished. Rival is a placeholder.

This was intended to be an entrypoint to FNF modding, while I was working on a more ambitious OC mod, essentially so I could get used to how it all works, I simply made a couple of sprites in the 1bit style I had some experience with at the time.

Pretty much every animation asset was finished overnight, despite the small time, I still feel pretty proud of how they came out.

Pictured: The animations made for Boyfriend and Girlfriend.

The sprites themselves were pretty much made by me looking at the ones from Week 6 and trying to adapt them into my style, which worked pretty well for the look of the sprites themselves.

It wouldn't be later where I would start work on the backgrounds, which would be based on already existing pieces of mine.

Pictured: The two backgrounds made for the mod, left was intended to be the principal one, right was made for a "what-if there was a song 2."

Of course, as every FNF mod would do at the time as well, I'd hide a couple of references to other mods or even the original game itself, which were pretty fun to make as I wanted to add a bit more personality into these. Especially left.

This wouldn't be the only place where I'd hide references, as even in the files I worked on a couple of sprites for no reason at all, just as easter eggs.

iu_617036_8478592.png iu_617038_8478592.png iu_617039_8478592.png

Pictured: A couple of sprites I've made in reference to other mods, not part of the actual mod but in the files. (Minus BF from FNF Minus, Bob from Every FNF Mod ever and Garcello from Smoke Em Out Struggle.)

I also worked on a couple of dumb text files for the intro thingy. They were mostly references to the mod itself or other games, just wrote whatever the hell I felt was funny.

So, what about the music? Well, this mod was intended to be simple, so at most the music would be an arrangement of an existing FNF song. My choice, Roses. As it was (and still is) my favorite FNF song.

Another choice was Act IV Part 2 from Ninja Gaiden III (NES), why? No reason, I just liked it.

The arrangement would have been made in Famitracker, using the 2A03+VRC6 chips so it would of sounded very cool.

Yet again, the mod got cancelled before any work on that could be done.

Of course, code-wise I actually spent a fair bit working on Kade Engine to make the mod function, but because of a still present lack of experience with code, I ended up giving up and asking help from someone to code. I'd get a coder, but any work on that as well wasn't done.

So, why was the mod cancelled? Simple, the whole Sky debacle.

As I've grown lazier and not work much on the mod, just waiting for the week to be somewhat functional so I could contact the musician, the whole Sky thing happened, and as such I've grown deeply uncomfortable with the FNF Modding Community, and cancelled it alongside my more ambitious mods at once.

Was that a good idea? I don't know, if I could I would of just released the mod and leave it there, but oh well, it ended up being cancelled, I've tried to revive it a couple of times now using Psych Engine, but the truth is that I don't feel passionate about working on anything FNF related. If I came back and released it, it would probably only be to tie up loose ends, as I somewhat regret not having worked on the mod. Not like I still have the skills to work on it myself, and I don't wanna ask anyone for help on it, I don't really interact much with the FNF community beyond just looking at the progress of a couple of mods and writing the story for one, and I don't really care anymore about the base game.

I thought of making the assets public use but I doubt anyone would use them for their mod since making 1bit stuff is fairly easy if you got a somewhat decent idea of how spriting works. I am still proud of the art, though.

So that's the whole 1Bit, 1Song archive post. Thanks for reading, and hope that while this mod is cancelled, at least liked the pretty art.

I have decided to slowly but surely come back eventually, just trying to order stuff around before posting stuff again.

However, I am pleased to say that I have been working on some small stuff for myself, such as a full redesign for my (currently under renovations) neocities site, I've been days finding good layouts for it as I'm wanting to make it easier for me to use, and I got something good for the front page!

... So far it's just a mockup, however, coding it all would be a whole different mess, to not mention I still have the rest of the site's design left, but I know I will eventually take care of it and end up releasing the site completely.

I am not returning yet, due to reasons of mental health (and also that I don't really have much that I'd like to show,)

But I can tell you, I'm doing decently so far, I just have to figure things out.

Just felt like giving an update to the site I used to use as a main site. (I plan to keep using the site of course.)

Thanks for being patient! And have a good one!

So, Make a Good 48 Hour Mega Man Level has been released not too long ago!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkP7Vz9fMXo

This is a game in where yours truly has actually made a level for, and while it isn't very good, there's some amazing stuff right there, in and out of the entries, it's legit very fun! Play it if ya like NES Mega Man stuff.

The levels are pretty old but they are still very fun to go through, even some of those that are at the lowest tiers.

Good News and Bad News.

Good news is that I'm considering to return into the development of the mod, and also overhaul it as much as I can in terms of art and plans. Want to make it bigger but also just a better work as a whole.

Bad news are... I have absolutely no idea what to do with the mod now, make it a full fledged week with a custom char or smth, even then I am stuck as to what to do, wanna make something that has a reason to be a 1-bit week mod. Will figure it out some time but I'm open for suggestions.

Oh, and another piece of news, I'm considering actually opening commisions since now I find out I'm legally allowed to do so, it will most probably be small sprites like the ones I upload all the time here. I will try to answer any questions about them but I am figuring out what prices should I put.

Short Update: Development has been stopped indefinitely. It's not cancelled though.

Long Update: I've been working on this 1BIT styled mod for FNF for some small time. While working on it, I've noticed that the FNF fandom hasn't been in a good light, with things happening over and over.

And because of those things being worse and worse I think i've been demotivated from working further on it fully. I will probably return working on it at some point, and you'll know when it will release once it does. Although I won't give a date or anything like that for now.

It's definitely going to be changed from what has been seen so far.

Thanks for the support given to the art that has been released.

As the title says I've been considering to open comissions on small sprites and style imitation.

Not sure if I should do so. And if anyone would buy them.

https://tricksterhat.neocities.org/archive/pixelart.html

Here's my portfolio, while not updated. I consider it a good way to see if I should open them.

  • I don't really need the money, but I think it would be cool to do them. And if anyone has any tips for commisions. Please tell me!
